Being proactive about your own health is the best way to avoid cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac death. The first step is to know the symptoms. Do you have shortness of breath? Suffer from ongoing fatigue? Chest pain isn’t the only warning sign of a heart attack; in fact, only 30% of heart attack victims experience chest pain. More often than not, it’s the other symptoms that they never ask their physician about.
Don’t blame your symptoms on age, stress, or weight gain. There could be a more serious (and life-threatening) condition that is trying to “tell” you to pay attention to your body.
S.C.A.R.F. (Sudden Cardiac-Death Awareness Research Foundation)
Dr. Rubina Nguyen and cardiologist Dr. Paul Nguyen founded S.C.A.R.F., a non-profit organization that educates individuals on the dangerous relationship between sudden cardiac death, sleep apnea, and oral health. In fact, Dr. Rubina is the only dentist in the United States that runs a medical non-profit.
For Suburban Dental Medicine, S.C.A.R.F. is our way to give back to the community and have a significant impact on the health of our patients’ lives. Dr. Rubina works with approximately 30 different interns each summer, conducting independent research related to sleep apnea and sudden cardiac death.
